Teenage Fanclub
Album reviews
Howdy!
Thirsty Ear (2002)
In terms of crafting a pop song, Teenage Fanclub are one of the most talented groups of today's British working class. But unfortunately, talent alone doesn't always make a great record.
Songs From Northern Britain
Virgin (1997)
Teenage Fanclub grew up with the '90s. In the beginning, they were a great grungy slacker pop band who played with grace. In '97, they still play graceful pop, but they're not slacking anymore.
Thirteen
Geffen (1993)
Thirteen starts off with a heavy riff almost exactly like that of Nirvana's "School." It's jarring for an instant, until you realize that this band did rock before (see Bandwagonesque) and apparently they still rock.
Bandwagonesque (Recommended)
Geffen (1991)
Bandwagonesque beat Nirvana's Nevermind and Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend to the punch. It's a grab-bag of classic pop treats delivered with a more contemporary, "alternative" guitar sound.
Concert reviews
July 13, 2001
Bowery Ballroom, New York
It was an unassuming, cool Friday night on New York City's Bowery. And that suits Teenage Fanclub just fine.
