Welcome!

What is "Nude As The News"? With respect to Cat Power, from whom we lifted the title, it's our online living room, where we can hold forth on our favorite musics with the wide-open audience of the Internet. Born in early 1999 from the computers of a couple recent Indiana University graduates, the site was started so that we could have a forum to write about music in our spare time and not be beholden to any sort of sponsorship or undue outside influence. Meaning: no ads, all editorial content.

All the writing you'll find on this site is essentially created by a group of friends, and an extended NATN family that has grown out of our readership. Nobody gets paid to do any of this stuff — it is wholly a labor of love, and stands as our collective tribute to the world of audio art. We all have day jobs and full lives, so the fact that NATN still exists is due entirely to the dedication of its writers and contributors over the years, and the music our favorite artists make, which spurs us on to comment, analyze and celebrate.

We sincerely thank you for being here. The beauty of the Internet is the way that it simplifies communication and allows just about anyone to create a publication on limited means. All of this is for you, so please look around and enjoy it.

—The Founders

Our review policy

As stated in the intro above, NATN is strictly a hobby. We all have full-time obligations aside from this site, and the work we do for it is something we have to squeeze out of our leisure time. So as you might guess, we tend to only write about stuff that we like. That is to say, many things compel us to write about music, but unlike some other publications, we don't have the time to sit down every night and crank out multiple reviews of the latest releases.

That said, we are extremely flattered when people deign to send us copies of their art for prospective review. We do appreciate it, and we do review some of it, and one more than one occasion we flip for it (Troy owes Merge Records a debt of gratitude for introducing him to Lambchop).

So, if you want to send anything our way (scared ya off, did we?), try this address:
